Hobie Fleet 214 is based out of Vancouver BC and sailing off the sandy beach of Jericho.

Fleet 214 is a sanction fleet following the Hobie tradition of fun events, one design racing, clinics, and planned excursions.  There are seven other Hobie fleets in our Division 4 that regularly meet with us to share the social aspect of sailing and exchanging ideas on sail performance.

Fleet 214, Vancouver
2009

Hobie Fleet 214 had a tremendous 2008 season within the Pacific North West Division 4.  Members and teams were all over the province of BC an State of Washington having fun racing their cats' and sharing stories with friends. The pinnacle event was the 2008 North American Hobie Championships at Harrison Hot Springs.  Our fleet was represented in every class and remained focused on the 5 days of sailing big winds.

As we head into the 2009 season, the schedule is complete with both Hobie focused events and a few open class events. For those that missed last years 2008 adjustments to the HCA ruling, NA Hobie fleets can now run a sanctioned Hobie event on the tails of a non-Hobie sailing club.  This means a Hobie Fleet(s) can approach a sailing club and request permission to participate in the yacht clubs regatta and be scored as a one design. The only stipulation is the requested start must resemble a one-design (OD)start (ie: all Hobie).  This enables the fleet and it's members to race in a large regatta and not be burdened with organizing and hosting a full regatta.  For those that have hosted a regatta, it is a big relief to know that we can get back to sailing and racing and not designing trophies and menus.

This year there will be seven Hobie build regattas.  In the tradition of Hobie events, they will be held in a location that permits camping, hotels, or RVs.  Dinners will be provided with the regatta entrance and held in a private area so that we can move about with our dinner and chat with many people.  Regatta registration is also very reasonable as the various fleets are motivated to build relationships and collaborate catamaran knowledge - rather than build bank accounts.

The Hobie Fleet would like to welcome Glenmore Boats to Vancouver.  For those looking for Hobie boats, parts, and apparel, check out this experienced dealership with very knowledgeable staff on rigging, parts, and sailing.
